I LOVE when I get to do whatever I want for an order. I love it even more when the order is for cookies. I picked the cookie shapes, the colors, the fonts of the words, etc. I had so much fun playing with my KopyKake projector. I also tried a new cookie recipe. Typically I make a standard shortbread sugar cookie. I added some cocoa to make it chocolate. The results were great!

Yes...that's Hello Kitty...on a cookie...and I MADE IT!!!!

I hate to tell my secrets...but I have to give credit where credit it due. Meet my new KopyKake Projector.

It is essentially a light projector that projects images on cookies, cakes, etc. I can put any image in the projector, and then trace that image on the cookie. TECHNICALLY, I'm still doing all the work...just with some help. Most people ask if the KopyKake decorates the cookie. That makes me laugh. I still have to do all the work :)

This is the most I've enjoyed decorating cupcakes/cookies in a LONG TIME. I get to do something new, something creative...which makes updating my blog MUCH more fun. Most of my orders are repeat/copies from other orders...so I don't upload most of my pictures.

In honor of Valentines Day....this is how I spent my week (besides me real job, of course). I'm hoping to get Valentine cookie orders so I can work more with my KopyKake projector.

This weekend Allison will get married.

Oh Ally. From high school to my college roommate to my grad school co-worker...I don't even know where to begin. I'll spare the high school pictures. Let's start in college.

And then we grew up (in age at least).

We graduated (again).

Our boyfriends like each other WAAAAAAAAY too much.

Ally will marry Charles. I approve.

Last weekend we celebrated their wedding with a couples shower. I did the baking. The theme was "All Things Kentucky"... and this is what I came up with.

Celia's Wedding Weekend

Celia got married on September 16th in a private ceremony in Nashville. The following day was full of celebration. The day started with a ladies luncheon at the Opryland Hotel. I designed and helped the mother of the bride with various decorations. I take no credit for the ideas....I simply helped execute :) The invitation...

The Opryland Hotel is simply beautiful. The luncheon was in an atrium outside of the Old Hickory Steakhouse.

The entire lunch was perfect..from the decorations to the meal to the dessert.

The tables turned out great.

Michael turned 26. We celebrated with a surprise dinner one weekend. I made his favorite cupcakes...tie dye with cream cheese frosting.

We also celebrated again the following weekend. This time I made a cheesecake.

...it just means I'm behind on blogging. I was on vacation for the 4th of July. I enjoyed EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of relaxing. No work. No cupcakes.

No cupcakes = no grocery shopping, no Michael's or Hobby Lobby, no making picks, no cutting ribbon, no putting boxes together, no making frosting, no baking, no emails, no re-arranging contents of the fridge to make cupcakes/frosting fit, no decorating, no cleaning up thousands of sprinkles after decorating, no dishes, no arranging pick-ups....just pure relaxation.

Did I miss cupcakes? Nope. Not one bit. With that said....I'm refreshed. I'm not tired. I feel good and now I'm ready for more orders. I didn't miss cupcakes because I only had ONE week off...and I wanted to enjoy every second of it with my family.

Now getting the 4th of July. I had to make something. As much as I tried to give up baking completely for one week, I just couldn't. I had to make something special to celebrate the holiday. I baked for fun...and that's something I'm not usually able to do.

Everyone though my (hand-made) topper was my patriotic twist.

And then I cut the cake.

My family and I celebrated the 4th with a classic American cook-out. Hamburgers, hot-dogs, baked beans...all on decorative plates. We ate American flag cake...and yes...it tasted THAT much better since it was a flag.

I'm late on this post. I apologize.

Meet Celia.

While this post eventually relates to cupcakes, I have to preface the cupcakes with some background information.

Meet Celia.

I've known Celia for nearly 15 years. We rode the bus together in elementary school. We danced together for the Gatorettes dance team. Meet the Gray Gatorettes captain and 2nd lieutenant (I think). Believe it or not, even these sparkly costumes, we actually thought we were cool.

We laughed uncontrollably together. We spent birthdays together...one of those being a Celine Dion concert! Yes, we are a select few that have seen Celine LIVE in concert.

We went to the mall...and on $10, could eat and find something we HAD TO HAVE at Claire's. We went to Ground Round. We went to movies. We even got in the wrong man's car once after a movie. This story is funny, but probably would not translate that way if I tried to tell the whole ordeal. We were on the Speech and Drama team. We played piano together....too many piano inside jokes to explain.

Our mom's are friends, and we forced our siblings to be friends.

We babysat together. For two intelligent people, we made stupid decisions together. I'm not ashamed to say that we put cheese...on bread...in a toaster.....and then tried to hide it.

(please excuse my pants...I have no words for them)

We analyzed middle school boys together. We got in trouble in high school for talking too much in Biology. We grew into different people in high school. We had different interests, different hobbies, different friends...but still remained close.

I'd do anything in the world for Celia, and I know with confidence she would do the same for me. So, last weekend, as we celebrated her wedding, I had to stop and reflect on our friendship. We live hours apart...and its amazing how we can catch up within minutes of seeing each other.

Celia, I couldn' t be any happier for you. I can't wait for the real celebration in September.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the cupcakes...

Mother's Day

I know I'm late...a lot late. I'm a bad daughter. I didn't do a mother's day post on the actual day like everyone else. That definitely doesn't mean we didn't celebrate though. We had a mother's day weekend that ended with a family dinner.....grilled hot dogs, real potato salad, beans, and cupcakes for dessert. MMMMMMM!

Mom got flowers, a gift card to buy more flowers (that's what she wanted), and a charm for her Pandora bracelet.

The flowers were from The Secret Garden (I highly recommend). The cupcakes were german chocolate...by her request. This was the first time I have made them and they turned out okay. Here is a close up...

What can I say about my mom?!? She's my bestie, my BFF. We shop, we eat, we watch TV, we make fun of each other.

And just because I feel I should include the OTHER daughter...I'll put one with Jord in it too. haha. Happy Mothers Day!

I've said this a million times, but I LOVE making cupcakes for kids. Girl, boy, sports, princesses...I love it all. These pink and purple cupcakes were covered with sprinkles and glitter....and of course princess picks!

New Flavors!

This week I had some time (and a very nice customer who let me pick her flavors) so I got to try some new recipes!!!

First I updated my white cupcakes that are filled with raspberry. I baked the filling in the cupcake (rather than adding it after they were baked)... and I thought they turned out much better! You can't really see the flavor in this picture...but this was them...

The other new cupcake I've added to my menu are yellow cupcakes filled with miniature chocolate morsels. MMMMM. I like them with chocolate frosting...

On a different note, I have decided to charge extra for the filled cupcakes. The filling was not a part of my original pricing structure, PLUS, they take more time to make. A dozen filled cupcakes (see my flavor combinations page for a full list of filled cupcakes) is now $20.

And now they ask questions...OH THE QUESTIONS. What color is that? Can I do it? Can I put this in? Can i lick the spoon? THe questions never stop. Either way, I can't complain. 600 cupcakes. That was my week. No pictures of the cupcakes baking...but I did take a picture of the 50 batches of buttercream frosting. Yes, 50 batches. I could not lift these tubs when they were full.

My biggest order so far...70 dozen mini's! I've been doing cupcakes for over a year, and I still didn't know how to plan for this. I ran out of EVERY ingredient at one point. Regardless, I felt like a "real" baker. My mom and I had a serious assembly line constructed, and by the end, we were really moving fast!

Since baking has turned from a hobby into a part-time job, I don't get to bake for "fun" as much I used to. I have lists of things (mostly in my head) of things I want to make/try/create/etc. When Michael got a new job, I took full advantage of the situation and made a rainbow cake! I've been wanting to make one for SO LONG...but it's hard to justify making a cake for no reason. It turned out perfectly! I'm usually a big critic of EVERYTHING I make...but I love the way this looks. The picks on top were a little more cluttered than I planned, but still, I have no complaints.

Valentine Picture Overload

I'll be honest...I get WAY more excited about baking for valentines day than I do about the "holiday" itself (and I use holiday loosely). Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who spend their whole February 14th ranting on "Hallmark Holidays"...nor have I ever really been bothered by if I have, or don't have, a "Valentine" on this one particular day. In my opinion, every day is more important than how someone treats you this one day. Keep in mind, I write ALL of this while staring at beautiful pink roses...so maybe I'm a bit biased :)

I love Valentines day for other reasons. I love the pink and red color combination you see EVERYWHERE. I love that hearts are surprisingly not tacky for a few days. I love that, at 25 years old, I still get a valentines gift and heart-shaped cookie cake from my mom. I love even more that my mom left me a gift and card in my room EARLY this year since she was in Florida this week. I love that my dad insisted on making steaks for my sister and I last night for our Valentines dinner. I guess I love that Valentines seems to be a reason to celebrate...exactly what we are all celebrating...I'm a little unsure of...but either way, I like it. So I celebrated this year by making TONS of cookies, and a few cupcakes.

If you've ever had a Hello Cupcake! cookie, you know they are HEAVY. This is why:

I think I had 13 sticks of butter sitting out at one point...and that was probably only half of what I used. Now you know why these cookies are SO good. I did several plates of these...they all looked very similar, so I only took a picture of a few.

Changes to Hello Cupcake!

Sorry for not posting lately. I'm still making cupcakes...but now I'm mixing that with a full time job at Northern Kentucky University advising and teaching. What does this mean for the future of Hello Cupcake!? A few changes, that's all!

A few changes that are effective immediately...

I must have at least one weeks notice (7 days) for ALL orders. I simply cannot take orders with less than a weeks notice. After working all day, I have to plan my time...which means I do all of the prep work I can early in the week...so I can bake the day before the order is due. This only works with plenty of time.
Each dozen can now only have one flavor. I just don't have time anymore to make dozens of different flavors...plus I hate having to throw most of a batch out (or force my family to eat them)!

Thanks to everyone for your continued support. I still love making cupcakes, and these changes were necessary to ensure that I can continue making cupcakes part-time!

I guess I will use this order to display a new summer flavor! Key lime cupcakes with cream cheese frosting...topped with lime zest! They are soooooooo good...I've had lots of great reviews!

Since the key lime cupcakes were part of this order...I used light blue and lime green as my color scheme.
